Help with the level, corner gauge and ruler for iPhone.

Diedro is a bubble level, a corner gauge and a true-scale ruler for iPhone. The answers below cover the most common questions — anything else, email us.

What do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 18 or later. It needs no account and no internet.

Reading a corner

Open Angle and tap Start measuring. Rest the back of the iPhone flat on one face of the corner and hold it still until it ticks; then rest it on the other face the same way. The turn between the two rests is the corner — two walls, a floor and a wall, the bevel of a blade — and the exterior, supplement and mitre setting come with it. Keep the back flat on the face (a bulky case that rocks will spoil it), and take the second rest within a few seconds of the first: the gyroscope drifts slowly, and the reading is only as good as the two rests. Again starts over.

Why is there no Rule on my iPhone?

The ruler is drawn only on screens whose exact pixel density Diedro knows. On a screen it does not know it shows no ruler, rather than one at the wrong scale. Diedro knows every iPhone screen that had been published when your version came out. If yours shows no Rule, update the app: new iPhone models are added as they are published.

Millimetres or inches?

In Settings, choose the unit of the rule. Inches are marked down to a sixteenth and read as fractions, the way a tape measure is read.

Checking the ruler

A bank card is 85.6 mm long. Lay it along the rule from 0: it should end at the small notch. The Bank card button moves the line there.

Zeroing the level

Lay the iPhone on the surface and tap Zero the level. Turn it half a turn on the same spot and tap again. The two readings cancel the phone's own error, the way a real level is checked. Reset zero undoes it.

Does a case change the reading?

The corner gauge rests the iPhone the same way on both faces, so the camera bump cancels out; a bulky case that rocks on its edges does not.

I hold the phone in my left hand

In Settings, choose which thumb gets the Hold button.

Does Diedro need the internet?

No. Diedro never uses the internet, and nothing you measure leaves your iPhone.

Languages

Diedro speaks English, Spanish, Catalan, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Polish, Turkish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian and Malay. It follows the language of your iPhone; to choose one for Diedro alone, open Settings → Apps → Diedro → Language.

How accurate is it?

Diedro is a handy instrument, not a certified one: the motion sensor of an iPhone is made for apps, not for the workshop. Check anything that matters against a tool you trust.
